(And Amie takes a deep breath) What a FABULOUS book! Emma has been on the run with her five year old son, Jake, for three years, trying to stay ahead of the “Bad Men” as Jake calls them. Emma has no idea why they are after her, just that they are. (I don’t suppose it’s feasible to question men in black SUVs when they are shooting at you.) The years have changed Emma, her one goal now is protecting her son. Until she meets Will.
Ex-military with a dishonorable discharge after his name, Will has been hired by the other faction to find Emma and bring her in alive. (Not a spoiler) But as Emma reluctantly joins forces with Will things begin to change. Jake assures her that they can trust Will, but Emma is hesitant. It’s been a long time since she’s been able to trust anyone other than herself–and Jake’s premonitions. And that’s all I can tell you about the story without blowing all the twist, turns, surprises, and bombs that go off as the pages turn.
CHOSEN is a roller-coaster ride of a story. It’s brilliantly written, amazingly complex and yet simple in its message and style. Swank leaves the reader asking questions throughout the book, questions that create a page-turning story as the answers and even more questions are uncovered.
Rarely do I run across a book that leaves me in such a state that I can’t read anything else for a while. CHOSEN is that kind of book. It grabs you by the throat and won’t let go until the last page is read.
This book should come with a warning–call for take-out, higher a sitter, and turn off your phone. You don’t want to miss this!
