Summer Scorcher Blog Tour Week 2 – Beauty

Welcome to Part 2 of Sarah Grimm’s guest blog on the Summer Scorcher Blog Tour – Week 2. Thanks for staying with me!

If this is your first stop, you’ll want to start at Part 1 (Sarah’s blog) before returning here:

Part 1 – Sarah’s blog:

Now I have to ask you, how did you answer question one? You better have all said you were part of the 2 percent! Wait, that would make me one of those ‘do as I say, not as I do’ people. Yup, you guessed it, if I answered the question, I would place myself with the majority. Sad, but true.

Isabeau Montgomery, the heroine from AFTER MIDNIGHT, would also be part of the majority. At five foot three inches tall, petite yet curvy — a woman with a natural, incredible ability to sit down at the piano keyboard and have music flow from her fingertips… she’s just the type of women we love to hate, isn’t she? Not if we asked Izzy.

She was not a beautiful woman. Taken separately, her features held the potential for beauty, but together, with her mix of cultures, she had a face like a jigsaw puzzle whose pieces didn’t fit together. Her cheeks were too sharp, her lips too large, and her eyes, pale enough they all but disappeared beneath the dark tones of her father’s heritage. Neither blue nor gray, her eyes brought her the most displeasure. Most people spoke of her eyes as “peculiar” and “haunted.”

I wonder if that’s how my hero, Noah, sees Izzy? Don’t think so? Well… you’ll have to go to the next blog to find out. *wicked grin*

Before I heat things up, let me ask you this: Is it possible that some of the things we see as our faults — those things we believe detract from our beauty — another person sees as our more beautiful features?

  1. Book sounds great! Can’t wait to read it and see how he sees Izzy. Onthe beauty question – I stil l see my faults but I think as I age others don’t see them as clearly as I do. I have learned to not be so hard on myself so that my inner beauty outshines the outer faults I have.

    1. Linda – What a great way to look at it! We all have faults – even those who society has brain-washed into believing are ‘perfect’. But we are all beautiful, too, I truly believe that. Keep letting that inner beauty shine through!

  2. To answer your question, Amie, I totally think that others see in us what we can not see in ourselves. I have found that, for me, the trick has been to say “thank you” and not disagree because we don;t feel comfortable with someone thinking we’re pretty, smart, funny, etc.I think it’s different reasons, for different people. On the other hand, if someone is cruel enough to say something negative about us and believe that they are “helping” us in some way by telling us the “truth,” I say, tell them to f-off.I’m not a proponent of violence by any means, but that shit drives me crazy – so kick ’em in the balls or pull their hair, or better yet, say “thanks for sharing” and walk away with your head held up high. What do they know, anyway?!

    1. I’ll give you another, Amen, sister! Keep your head held high because you’re right, what DO they know?

  3. Izzy sounds beautiful to me! In answer to your question, yes I do think that what we see as flaws others see as beautiful. Infact I find my weight to be a definite flaw (I’m overweight) but my fiance loves my curves, so now I’ve started to see them in a new light…I guess it isn’t so bad to have hips and a booty!! lol
